From Workshop on AGORA: Access to Global Online Information in Agricultural Research (13-14 June 2018 San Salvador, El Salvador)

From 13 to 14 June 2018, FAO of the UN organized a national workshop on AGORA and Research4Life in San Salvador, El Salvador, during which librarians, researchers, lecturers, professors, ministerial staff and decision makers gathered to learn more about the programmes and enhance their capacities to access and use the resources available through AGORA and the other Research4Life programmes.

Dr Alan Gonzalez, FAO Representative in El Salvador, who opened the workshop, emphasized the importance of the programme for the country. He highlighted the fact that scientific research is the core of innovation and how important continuous research is for agriculture, food security and nutrition.

The opening was followed by an introduction of the AGORA and Research4Life programme to a mixed audience, some of which were not familiar with the programme yet. Theoretical and practical exercises were later practiced, in which participants actively engaged in related discussions on how they could improve access to scientific resources at their workplace using AGORA.

At the end of the workshop, participants improved their knowledge on AGORA and Research4Life, enhanced their skills to access scientific resources online and acquired strong will to continue working with the platform. This will hopefully result in some new registrations in the country and an increased use of the resources made available through the programme.
