The NewGenLib Open Source has announced the release of a new version 3.0.4 R1 Update 1. NewGenLib is an integrated library management system developed by Verus Solutions in conjunction with Kesaran Institute of Information and Knowledge Management in India. The software has the modules acquisitions, technical processing, serials management, circulation, administration, and MIS reports and OPAC.

What’s new in the Update?

This new update comes with a basket of additional features and enhancements, these include:

The Rangelands Partnership, a university-based, multi-disciplinary collaboration, has launched a suite of websites with a database of more than 13,000 resources, the purpose of which is to support research, sustainable management, and education about the world’s rangelands. 

In 2002, the Arizona Rangelands project expanded to become what is now known as the Rangelands Partnership – a collaboration of 19 western U.S. land-grant institutions and several international organizations which have been working to develop evaluated, science-based information resources and tools now available in the following websites.

Russian Journal of Agricultural and Socio-Economic Sciences (RJOAS) is an interdisciplinary open access journal of agriculture and socio-economic studies. The journal aims at establishing a bridge between theory and practice in the fields of agriculture and socio-economic research and reports on the latest research findings innovative approaches for agriculture production and socio-economic development.

Topical coverage includes: agriculture and rural development, agricultural economics, rural sociology, management, agribusiness, agrarian policy, information systems and social economy.

An Institutional Repository is an online locus for collecting, preserving, and disseminating, in digital form, the intellectual output of an institution (INASP, 2013). According to ROAR, there are 3,340 and as per OpenDOAR, there are 2,255 institutional repositories in the world and out of which 87 are in agriculture, food and veterinary (OpenDOAR, 2013).

Most of these repositories are build either by DSpace or Eprints which are Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). These software are compatible with Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) and make the meta-data of the records easily available to the machines and makes the contents available when queried in any web search engines.

A newly updated AgriOcean DSpace version 1.2 is now available for download. The update adds the VOA3R Application Profile, for the OAI-PMH interface, to the already existing MODS and AGRIS AP. This version is available for both the Windows (XP/Windows/Vista/7) and Linux (Meccano) environments.

The additional feature enables AgriOcean DSpace to be part of the tools to be distributed among the data providers for the implementation of document repositories within the VOA3R project.
