AGRIS uses recommendations at metadata and vocabularies level provided from the AIMS portal. The AGRIS repository, a collection of nearly 2.9 million bibliographic references is encoded in an XML qualified Dublin Core metadata format that eases sharing of information across dispersed bibliographic systems. Its high quality content description is enhanced by the AGROVOC thesaurus, extensively used by cataloguers to enrich data indexing in agricultural information systems.
AGROVOC as Linked Open Data is also used by OpenAGRIS, web application to aggregate information from different Web sources in the AGRIS context. AGROVOC, organized using Simple Knowledge Organization System (SKOS), contains many alignments to other vocabularies (e.g. DBPedia, FAO Geopolitical Ontology, etc.) that allow querying triple stores to retrieve external resources.
