The AIMS team is pleased to announce the webinar “Islandora: Managing digital assets with a best-practices framework".

The webinar will present Islandora and its portfolio to support institutions and organizations to manage and discover digital assets using a best-practices framework. Islandora is an open-source software framework that is contributed to an ever-growing international community.

The webinar addresses (agricultural) researchers, librarians, information management specialists, software developers, (agricultural) journal editors, related data providers and other interested people.

"The Open Repositories Steering Committee is delighted to announce that for OR2014 we will be running a pilot Scholarship Programme. This programme will enable us to provide support for a small number of full registered places for this year’s conference in Helsinki. The programme is open to librarians, repository managers, developers and researchers in digital libraries and related fields. Applicants submitting a paper for the conference will be given priority consideration for funding".

The AIMS team is pleased to announce the webinar “Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR): Enhancing research visibility through Open Access repositories”

The webinar will present COAR and its activities in support of the development of a global network of repositories. COAR is an association of repository initiatives with a membership of over 100 institutions worldwide from 35 countries in 4 continents.

The webinar addresses libraries interested in open access, librarians, (agricultural) researchers, information management specialists, software developers, (agricultural) journal editors, related data providers and other interested people.

Manuel Hidalgo presents Spanish Webinar@AIMS about ABCD

On Friday, the 7th of March 2014 Manuel Hidalgo presented the webinar „Integrated System for the administration of libraries: ABCD“ ("ABCD: Sistema integrado para la administración de bibliotecas") in Spanish. He showed and explained the system and its technological basis, its features and capabilities as well as important functionalities like the data base search, cataloguing of resources, statitics and services.

39 persons participated in the seminar and showed high interest in the tool during the discussion round. All questions and answers that were discussed after the presentation had finished will be published in a second blog post in Spanish.

Learn about text and data mining and join the EIFL Webinar on the 6th of February

The non-profit organization „Electronic Information for Libraries“ (EIFL) will inform about text and data mining in a webinar for librarians on the 6th February 2014 at 10.00 GMT, 11.00 CET. The webinar titled “Text and data mining: what librarians need to know“ will be held by Benjamin White (Head of Intelletual Property at the British Library) and Ben O’Steen (researcher in the area of digital scholarship at the British Library) and will provide information about the definition and scientific importance of text and data mining.

The meaning of text and data mining for librarians and users who provide access to electronic content is planned to be discussed as well as implications for licence agreements. There will be a discussion round after the presentation and time to ask questions.

Meeting of TaCCIRe and AIMS on the use and integration of controlled vocabularies (AGROVOC) in DSpace Repositories

On the 15th of November the AIMS editorial team met the consortium of the Tanzanian Climate Change Information Repository (TaCCIRe) project in order to give support and recommendations on the use and integration of vocabularies in digital repositories. The TaCCIRe is a digital online collection that gives visibility to the Tanzanian research on climate change and that is free of charge and free from most copyright and licensing restrictions. Currently a TaCCIRe subject repository based on DSpace is built up.

Como la información científica influye significamente al desarollo tecnológico y como la producción científica en América Latina carece de visibilidad, la Cooperación Latino Americana de Redes Avanzadas (RedCLARA) ha iniciado el proyecto “LA Referencia”. Los objetivos del proyecto son compartir, dar visibilidad y acceso abierto a la producción científica de América Latina. Para conseguir estos objetivos, el proyecto trabaja en la formulación de una Estrategia Regional consensuada de Repositorios Institucionales de Publicaciones Científicas.

Interesting insights into international projects on the second day of the LINQ Conference 2013

The two-day „Learning Innovations and Quality“ (LINQ) Conference 2013 started on the 16th of May 2013 under the motto „The Future of Digital Resources“. The second day of the conference was divided into four parallel sessions that gave all attendees the possibility to discuss learning innovation strategies in small groups.

The participants could freely choose to either take part in a workshop with invited experts or to be introduced to selected scientific papers and international projects of interest.
