RUFORUM adopted the AgriDrupal solution for their institutional repository!

The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) is a consortium of 32 universities in Eastern, Central and Southern Africa established in 2004. The consortium had previously operated as a programme of the Rockefeller Foundation beginning in 1992. RUFORUM is registered in Uganda as an International Non‐Governmental Organisation (NGO). It has a mandate to oversee graduate training and networks of specialization in the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) countries. Specifically, RUFORUM recognizes the important and largely unfulfilled role that universities play in contributing to the well‐being of small‐scale farmers and economic development of countries throughout the sub‐ Saharan Africa region.

They use the AgriDrupal tool to create their repository and publish the intellectual output of the RUFORUM network. Their goal is to provide free access to the resources that make RUFORUM a leader in postgraduate training and research in the agricultural sciences in Africa. All materials included in the repository are either Open Access or Open Educational Resources (OER). They are free to download, distribute, and in the case of OER, to adapt for educational purposes. In this way, RUFORUM network output will be visible to the worldwide scientific community.

Why did they choose AgriDrupal?

"It is open source, can be modified, is easy to use, and is free-of-charge.  In addition, AgriDrupal incorporates both the FAO Agris subject categories and AgroVoc more detailed thesaurus.  This removes much of the guesswork in indexing and makes it easier to identify relevant resources, from both within the RUFORUM Institutional Repository and when searching, using tools such as Google, Google Scholar, and CABI."

Furthermore their data will be easily and soon published in Agris, because RUFORUM (AgriDrupal) is an OAI-PMH provider.
