Focus on the Digital Library of Thesis and Dissertation at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil

The Digital Library of Thesis and Dissertations (DLTD) of the University of Sao Paulo was established in 2001, to make scholarly works produced by the university available over the internet. The repository collects research outputs from the university's Schools, Faculties and Institutes, all with a total of 34,293 documents. (20,629 being Masters Dissertations and 13,456 PHD Thesis and 208 Habilitation thesis)

Repository Overview

DLTD repository collects from more than 8 agricultural inclined schools and institutes with a total of 4,663 agricultural related documents. The subjects covered in agriculture include amongst many others, environmental studies, atmospheric sciences, food science, agro-ecosystems, animal sciences, crop sciences and oceanography.

The repository interface is available in 4 languages, Portuguese , English, Spanish and French and the repository left side menu allows for easy navigation, searching and browsing. In this menu, one can perform both simple and advanced searches. The catalogue function allows one to filter contents by subjects, type of documents, supervisor and by school or institute.

Value Added Services

The repository facilitates RSS feeds at collection level, and also provides additional service called ‘My Bookshelf’ which allows users to group works of interest in a single location and accessible from anywhere. The statistics function is enhanced with Google Chart API , allowing the use of charts to  visualise of data, and statistics can be generated in each page where the 'graph Icon' appears. ‘Derived works’ is another service which facilitates aggregating any content published elsewhere derived from the thesis in the repository, thereby enriching the content of DLTD.

The Digital Library of Thesis and Dissertation is OAI-PMH compliant and harvested by Google Scholar and also by the Networked Digital Library of Thesis and Dissertations Catalogue, of which DLTD is an associate member since 2001.

In 2012, The Digital Library of Thesis and Dissertations (DLTD) was ranked number 8 in the world by the Ranking of World Repositories. DLTD is registered with the OpenDOAR registry of repositories and is also associated with Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations.
