LINQ Conference 2013 successfully launched at the FAO headquarter in Rome

The two-day „Learning Innovations and Quality“ (LINQ) Conference 2013 started on the 16th of May 2013 under the motto „The Future of Digital Resources“. Around 200 experts and interested people were attending the conference in the FAO headquarter in Rome.

On the first day, eight keynote speakers shared their visions on the future of learning quality in connection with learning innovations. The welcome and introductive speech was given by the conference co-chair Christian M. Stracke from the University of Duisburg-Essen (Germany). Subsequently António Silva Mendes from the Directorate General “Education and Culture” of the European Commission opened the conference as first keynote speaker with a presentation about learning improvements in learning outcomes. He was followed by contributions from speakers that represented high ranked institutions like CEDEFOP, the OCW Consortium, Creative Commons, the UNESCO, the Internet Time Alliance, the Tony Bates Associates, the Universitiy of Athabasca (Canada), the Open University of the Netherlands and the University of Alcalá (Spain).

The speeches included ideas for open education evaluation criteria and trends in the European Vocational Education and Training (VET) as well as in the e-learning sector. As a result, recommendations for an enhanced technical use in education were given in order to ensure the adaption of educational systems to future learning environments. These technical innovations will support the opening of education as well as the coordination between education and the requirements of the labour market.
