What is your relationship with agricultural information management standards, tools and services?
I work as Knowledge and Information Management Officer at the Regional Office for Africa of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Accra, Ghana. My work focuses on promoting participatory approaches in knowledge exchange and information management in sub-Saharan Africa, with emphasis on the use of digital Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs); and providing technical advice on and assistance in the development of regional and national capacity for exchange of knowledge and information between stakeholders in food, agriculture and rural development. I have a Master of Science (Information Science) from the School of Information Studies for Africa (SISA), Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia; a Masters in Development Studies from the University of the Free State, South Africa and a PhD (Information Science) from the Rand Afrikaans University, South Africa. In the early years of my career I worked on library computerisation and management projects at the Copperbelt University in Zambia, National University of Lesotho and University of Namibia, and later as lecturer at the University of Namibia and the University of Natal (South Africa) where he taught several courses among them Information Systems Analysis and Design, Web-based Information Systems, Automation of Information Centers, Global Information Communication, and Electronic Information Sources and the Internet. From May 2006 to June 2013 I served as President of the Africa Chapter of the International Association of Agricultural Information Specialists (IAALD).
