The Fifth Metadata and Semantics Research Conference (MTSR 2011) aims at becoming the main event for researchers in the area of metadata and semantics with an inter-disciplinary focus.

MTSR conferences aims at the dissemination of research results and reports of practical applications about metadata in a broad sense, including Semantic Web annotations using ontologies. But it also covers topics related to thesauri, classifications or other kinds of knowledge organization systems. The conference welcomes both theoretical and applied or empirical research, including reporting on schemas, models and ontologies that advance the state of the art from the previous ones.

MTSR advocates the "Metadata Web" concept, in which metadata in a broad sense is considered the fabric of a sustainable and useful Web.
