AGORA is one of the four programmes making up Research4Life coordinated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on behalf of its many public and private partners. Since its launch in 2003, AGORA's goal has been that to provide free (complementary to open access) or low cost access to peer-reviewed journals and e- books in agriculture and related biological, environmental and social sciences.
The Research4Life (R4L; started in 2001 with HINARI programme) partners include the world’s leading scientific publishers, WHO, FAO, UNEP, WIPO, Cornell and Yale University Libraries, STM publishers and other technical partners.
# See AGORA Partners page. All R4L publishers are committed to working with R4L/AGRORA in its current format at least until the end of 2020. At that time, the initiative will be reviewed and adapted as needed.

AGORA accepts registrations separately only from institutions in Group A and Group B countries, areas and territories, and does not accept registrations from individuals.
Eligible institutions are: national universities, professional schools (medicine, agriculture, pharmacy, public health, engineering, etc.), research institutes, teaching hospitals and healthcare centers, government offices, national libraries, agricultural extension centers and local non-governmental organizations.
Institutions can register for AGORA through its parent programme Research4Life. To register with the AGORA programme kindly CLICK HERE and follow this simple guideline below:
1.) Before filling the online form, please make sure that you have all the needed information. The more information you provide on the form, the faster we can process your registration.
2.) If your institution is a UNIVERSITY or PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL, before filling the form, check the AGORA registered universities and professional schools. If your institution is already listed DO NOT REGISTER again. Ask at your library for the access first and then send an enquiry to email@example.com
3.) If your account (UserID & password) has stopped working DO NOT REGISTER again, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org explaining the problem. They will work with you to reactivate your access.
4.) Do NOT FILL MULTIPLE REGISTRATIONS while you wait to hear from AGORA. This just slows down the processing of all registrations while we check and eliminate duplicates. You may send an enquiry to email@example.com asking about the status of your registration
5.) Please note that Research4Life programmes NEED TWO (preferably three) OFFICIAL CONTACTS to process the request. please write full names and institutional email addresses of all contacts.
6.) Activities and Comments fields have a LIMIT OF 255 CHARACTERS, (this is individual letters and numbers not words). If you cannot fill in some valuable information or don’t have enough space to provide complete explanation, send an email with the additional details to the relevant HelpDesk including your country and instiution’s name.
7.) Be careful selecting the CORRECT COUNTRY, AREA, OR TERRITORY NAME. If it is not listed, it is not eligible for R4L programmes.
8.) AVOID ACRONYMS and spell out the complete name of institutions and departments. All telephone fields are exclusively numeric: no symbols, no spaces are allowed.
9.) As standard procedure, the WELCOME MESSAGE to AGORA programme is sent to the director and library contacts. If you are registering on behalf your institution, alert them that they will receive an email from firstname.lastname@example.org if the registration is approved.
10.) With the welcome message, the director and the library contacts will receive a LICENSE AGREEMENT. Encourage them to fill it out, sign and return quickly after receipt.
Do not hesitate to contact AGORA HelpDesk at email@example.com for any question or problem during registration!
# AGORA has also its own DGroup – an e-mail based communication and discussion channel where members receive updates, blog posts and news.
