The agINFRA initiative, as the community-specific reference point for research activities in the agri-food sector funded by the Horizon 2020 framework programme, and BigDataEurope H2020 project are creating the European map of big data in agriculture and food with all the major research institutions and research projects in the domain.

In order to identify and record the key players in the agri-food research community, UN FAO, Agro-Know and other representatives of the agINFRA initiative (such as GODAN partners) have set up a survey identifying the current and future challenges for big data and data management one of the Horizon 2020 societal challenges - the one on Food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine and maritime and inland water research, and the Bioeconomy.
