BlueBRIDGE will create open data services for the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries

FAO, in a consortium of 14 partners, plans to start BlueBRIDGE with support from EU H2020 to develop data services for fisheries and environmental and spatial management.

BlueBRIDGE capitalizes on past investments and uses the proven iMarine e-Infrastructure; this has 1500+ users, integrates +50 repositories, executes +13,000 models & algorithms/month; provides access to over a billion records in repositories worldwide, with 99,7% service availability.

BlueBRIDGE has several activities to develop:

BlueASSESSMENT; develop services for stock assessment and generate unique identifiers (also as uri's) for global stocks. Partners include IRD from France, ENG from Italy, and FORTH from Greece;

BlueENVIRONMENT; develop services based on ontologies to identify aquaculture and fisheries infrastructure from radar imagery, such as provided by the new Sentinel-1 satellite. The results will be used for spatial planning. Partners include CLS from France, FAO Rome, and IRD, France;

BlueSKILLS; develop on-line training and capacity building on existing training modules for fisheries scientists and oter practitioners. Partners include ICES from Denmark, FAO Rome, and CNR-ISTI, Italy

Other activities will boost the capabilities of the iMarine e-Infrastructure, and foster collaboration with SME's in aquaculture and environmental management.

The services are developed around an extensive data catalog.
