New version of the geopolitical ontology is now available

A new version of the geopolitical ontology 0.8 (beta) has just been released. It includes updated group names: official, short, and names for lists; updated and extended list of predecessors: Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, German Democratic Republic, Serbia and Montenegro, People's Democratic Republic of Yemen, Yugoslavia, Zaire, and their corresponding successors; and updated and corrected membership lists for northern and southern Africa.
 
In parallel, the FAO Country Profiles team has recently published an article on Wikipedia on ‘Geopolitical ontology’ that introduces the concept to the Wikipedia readers. It is available in English at... and in Spanish at.... Finally an article entitled “Integrating country-based heterogeneous data at the United Nations: FAO’s geopolitical ontology and services” was lately published on Semantic Universe (www.semanticuniverse.com), a portal that brings in semantic technology and its application to the public. This article provides an overview of geopolitical ontology to Semantic technology experts and other business sectors and explains how geopolitical ontology was applied to the FAO Country Profiles.
