Dr. Johannes Keizer and Dr Caterina Caracciolo from the AIMS Team in FAO presented the webinar entitled, "Implementing Linked Data in Low-Resource Conditions" organised by The Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI) an organisation managed by the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T).

More than 300 people from around the world attended the webinar held on the 9th of September 2015. The presentation was well received and about 75% of the attendees assessed the webinar as excellent or very good.

Presentation Summary

The presenters emphasized the importance of looking at open data and linked data not as alternative ways of exposing data, but as a continuum - where each institution may find the best solution according to the resource constraints it has. Then, they described the steps required to produce open data and linked open data, and highlighted the pros and cons of the solutions currently available to those who what to make their data published following the open data movement. The presenters then identified the possible bottlenecks that institutions may encounter when dealing with little resources, and suggested solutions on how to overcome those bottlenecks.

GODAN was presented as a relevant initiative in the area, which may be example and support to those dealing with data on agriculture and nutrition. The AGRIS usecase was presented as an example of collaborative approach to Linked Open Data in agriculture.
