EC FP7 Post-Grant Open Access Pilot funds Journal Titles

The list of funded requests keeps growing and has now reached nearly 200 publications!  An online list funded titles by this FP7 Post-Grant Open Access Pilot is being maintained here.

The EC FP7 Post-Grant Open Access Pilot provides an additional instrument to improve access to research results from FP7 projects  through the OpenAIRE2020 project.

The FP7 Post-Grant Open Access Pilot is aligned with the OA infrastructure and support network provided by OpenAIRE.  The current FP7 post-grant Open Access Pilot should not be confused with the previous FP7 Green Open Access Pilot  launched in August 2008.

In line with policy guidelines for this new post-grant funding initiative, the €2,000 maximum funding is applied to fully OA journal titles, while for monographs a maximum is of €6,000. Four million Euros are being provided by the EC to support OA publications by covering OA Article Processing Charges APC for up to two years after the project ends.

The Green OA route (also called self-archiving) remains always an alternative. The Green OA means that the published article or the final peer-reviewed manuscript is archived by the researcher in an online repository before, after or alongside its publication. ThePpilot has made available a list of eligible journals which can be pointed by researchers who want to have Gold OA funding opportunity when choosing where to submit their manuscripts.

Nowadays FP7 Post-Grant Open Access Pilot has already granted 115 funding requests for journal titles which were collected by the initiative and alphabetically sorted by journal title.

At the Pilot presentation delivered at the OpenAIRE workshop in Ghent (Nov 18th 2016) a list of journals for which more than one funding request has been approved was shown (slide 10).  There’s a very long tail of journals with just one approved funding request covering many disciplines. Two journals with multidisciplinary titles are clearly topping the list at the moment.

This list of funded journal titles will be kept up-to-date as the FP7 Post-Grant Open Access Pilot takes up.  Libraries and institutions that want to provide support to their researchers on where to publish may find this list helpful!
