Converted fourty acres of Land into Organic Farming at Sadivayal Village [Tribal Hamlet],Coimbatore using convergence Method and free them from clutches of Money lenders.
In May 2016, 20 of the most deprived farming families of the village joined together to start the first Amrita Farmers’ Group under the name of ‘’Amrita Vyavasayam Kulu”. The members themselves defined their responsibilities and formulated guidelines for internal management. With guidance from Amrita SeRVe, they started with activities like selection of seed, soil testing, seed testing, crop planning, water budgeting and water conservation measures. Every step was discussed among the group to find solutions.

On the 20th of June 2006 , the farmers planted nearly 600kgs of organic rice on their joint 40 acres of land. Cultivating organic rice meant learning and practicing with organic fertilizers and pesticides such as Jeevamritam, a natural fertilizer, and avoiding having to purchase chemical inputs. This organic venture paid off when in January 2017 they harvested their first profitable crop in five years. Here they saw a 200% increase in net income - from a loss of 23,600 Rs in previous years to a profit of nearly 50,000 Rs per acre using natural farming methods. We used convergence method and took  help of various line department and linked all the schemes available to farmers . The Organic farming is continuing successfully from last three years after our interventions. Positive change bring in Sadivayail Village

Formed SHG and provided training in Tailoring, Soap and Detergent Making and Artificial Jewellary making which enhance the income and self esteem.
Alcoholism and fighting have reduced drastically.
Created hundred of direct and indirect Jobs.

Development Project in India

Agriculture

Project 2 [Vallaramkunnu Village- Kerala]
Vallaramkunnu is a tribal village located in Wayanad district, Kerala, where three tribal colonies were adopted by the Amrita SeRVe project, namely Paniya colony, KattuparaNayakar colony, and Kuruchur colony comprising a total of 75 families. In Vallarankunnu 13 farmers formed the Amrita Organic Farmers Club and registered the same under the Cooperative Society Act. They are collective growing five acres of Organic Athira Rice on land which they have taken on lease. The activities are guided by local Amrita SeRVe coordinator and the paddy produced from the fieldsis distributed to the villagers. The project were supported by Integrated Tribal Development Program , Wayanad.

Project 3: [Chilly Cultivation by Andhra Pradesh’s First Agriculture Society]
Andhra Pradesh’s first agriculture society was registered in July 2018 by the members of the Amrita GudipaduCheruvu Organic Farmers’ Group. They immediately organised themselves and began the preparations for organic chilly cultivation. They started with training on the preparation and usage of natural fertilizers, such as Jeevamritam, as well as how to treat the organic seeds before planting.

The team visited a chilly nursery in the beginning of August and placed an order for chilly saplings. Since then, the farmers have gathered together for meetings every 2-3 days to discuss further steps: how to apply for subsidies, tractor use, what certificates will be needed and any other practical matters. They are also working on a rainwater-harvesting pond, which is part of a government project.

Later in August, the chilly saplings were purchased for 16 acres of land. TezaL epakshi was the chosen variety and the next day the saplings were planted. More meetings followed to complete the applications for a tractor and bore well motors. All steps are guided and supported by Amrita SeRVe’s local coordinator and experienced agriculture program manager.

Project 4: The Impact of Dairy Cooperative on   Women Empowerment

In Naniborvai we have started Dairy Farming in association with Amul . Amrita milk cooperative society-Nani Borvai  [AMCSN] engaged in a variety of activities to provide its members an assured market for their milk. It was registered under AMUL-SABAR HIMATNAGAR Co-operative Societies in the year Oct 2018 with initially seventy-five members and capable of handling 700 liters of milk daily. The project has made great strides in the improvement of livestock farming at Naniborvai Village and has succeeding in integrating better technology and management to the traditional small milk holder production system. It directly and indirectly provides 100 jobs in the village and approximately distributes Rs fourteen lakh/month among its members every month. Now the income from Dairy unit is 15 lakh/month.

Project 5 [Kitchen gardening]

In order to address the deficits arising from malnutrition, Amrita SeRVe community health workers initiate, promote and monitor kitchen gardens in the villages. By growing their own food, villagers can meet their nutritional needs of essential vitamins and minerals. These may be located in homes, schools or public community areas. In 2018 alone, our staff have monitored over 500 household kitchen gardens in 25 villages.

Education
We have started tuition centres in all adopted village. Amrita RITE- Rural India Tablet Education was launched with the aim of educating rural and tribal people in India through tablet technology. Also our tuition teacher takes care of elder education and education for drop outs. In many villages we started libraries and computer classes for rural students

Health
Through our health worker form village we address health include maternal and child mortality, water borne diseases, diarrhea, skin diseases, diabetes, hypertension, anemia, acute respiratory infections, and many other conditions. From every village we appoint one health worker and given training on all important health issues. They always function as a coordinator between patients and Doctors from PHC and other hospitals. Routine checkups and camps were properly coordinated by the Health workers.

Women Empowerment
We formed women SHG’s and trained them in various activities like tailoring, Dairy farming, Soap and detergent making, Pappad making  Toilet building , Regular awareness sessions,  regular cleaning drives and rallies.

Water and Sanitation
To start solving these problems, Amrita SeRVe has constructed the means for borewells, handpumps, overhead tanks and piped water. In eight states, we have built sustainable distribution systems which can give 24-hour access.
