29/10/2012
On 30th October, the CIARD partners will lead a breakout session at the second Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (GCARD-2) in Uruguay, on “Access, sharing and transformation of agricultural data and information”, addressing one of the collective goals identified in the GCARD Roadmap.
The session will feature a global framework for action on opening access to data and information which was developed through CIARD and which comprises firstly achieving change in policy and practice, secondly institutional and organizational issues, and thirdly technical issues and technologies.

The framework was also highlighted in the recently published CIARD policy brief. Several CIARD partners will contribute their experiences in the context of the framework, notably the CGIAR, CTA, FARA, and the World Bank, and national perspectives are being provided by speakers from China, Ghana, and the USA.
Participants in the session will identify collective actions that will be taken forward for opening access and enhancing effective use of agricultural data, information and knowledge, especially by resource-poor farmers and producers.
