Be a safe-food scientist - apply now for EFSA’s scientific panels!

Are you a scientist with expertise in food or feed safety, animal health or environmental risk assessment? Do you want to contribute to public health in Europe and make a difference to the lives of 500 million EU citizens? EFSA is looking for scientific experts for its ten Scientific Panels and its Scientific Committee. 

EFSA has launched a call for about 200 scientists with expertise in food and feed safety related issues. Interested scientists can apply from 1 June to 8 September 2017.

What do EFSA’s Scientific Panels do?

The Scientific Panels and the Scientific Committee are at the heart of EFSA’s mission to produce high-quality independent scientific advice for political decision-makers in Europe. Guided by the motto “Trusted science for safe food”, EFSA’s experts work in the interest of European consumers, animals and the environment.

Each of the ten Scientific Panels will be composed of 15-25 scientific experts. The size of the panel depends on their current and upcoming workload, and the expertise required. The Scientific Committee comprises the chairs of all the Scientific Panels plus six additional independent scientists.

What are the requirements?

We are looking for experts with a university degree and at least seven years of professional experience in the following disciplines:

  • genetics,
  • ecology,
  • plant sciences,
  • veterinary science,
  • zoology,
  • toxicology,
  • nutrition,
  • human medicine,
  • biology,
  • chemistry,
  • mathematics/statistics/biostatistics,
  • food/feed technology,
  • pharmacology,
  • exposure assessment,
  • epidemiology and
  • regulatory science.

We expect candidates to have experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • developing guidance for scientific assessment;
  • generate, collect and collate evidence;
  • perform scientific assessments;
  • write and review scientific documents;
  • communicate scientific outputs to different target audiences, manage projects and chair meetings.
