African Open Science Platform (AOSP) was launched in 2016 as the Africa-wide initiative to exploit the potential and promote the value of Open Data for Open Science.
By sharing : news on Open Science and Open Data-related events, as well as knowledge on the development and coordination of Data Policies, Data Training and Data Infrastructure, - AOSP boosts the impact of Open Data for Science and Society on the African continent (Ethiopia - - Ghana - - Madagascar - - South Africa) and beyond.
During International Open Access Week 2017, AOSP delivers a series of webinars ***All webinars will take place at 10:00 – 11:00 (SAST) Time Zone Converter*** !!! 27 October - - QUICK CONNECT - - Password : #openafrica !!! on "Incentives for sharing research data", to answer the following questions :
* Why researchers should share their data? * What benefits are in it for them? * How researchers can be incentivized on national and institutional levels? * What do research institutions have to gain by embracing Open Science? * Will the associated data expertise and opportunities for collaboration outweigh the perceived loss of intellectual capital that, if closed, can be exploited ahead of rivals? * Is there a strong incentive for poorer nations “not to be left behind” as science is transformed by the digital revolution? * Or will Open Data and Open Science merely lead to data assets in the ‘South’ being more quickly exploited by better resourced researchers in the ‘North’? |
ABOUT AOSP
Phase 1 of the AOSP will be coming to an end on 31 October 2017. The project has created even more awareness on the importance of Open Research Data, and for continuing/taking the conversation to government and policy level. AOSP was presented during:
- CODATA 2017 (Russia) on 9 Oct. 2017 - - Perspectives from the African Open Science Platform (by Paul Laughton);
- Workshop for Assessing the Landscape of Open Access to Scientific Publications in Ethiopia (Ethiopia) on 4 Aug. 2017 - - African Open Science Platform (by Joseph Mwelwa);
- 2nd African Open Data Conference (Ghana) 18-21 July 2017;
- CODATA-RDA Research Data Science Summer School (Italy) 10-21 July 2017;
- CODATA-RDA Research Data Science Applied Workshop on Extreme Sources of Data, Bioinformatics and IoT/Big-Data Analytics (Italy) 24-28 July 2017.
- The AOSP Project Team also represented AOSP during many events & opportunities.
The AOSP is looking forward to presenting its workshops during:
- the Botswana Open Data Open Science National Workshop that will take place on 30-31 October 2017.
- the UbuntunetConnect 2017 conference (on 2-3 November 2017) that focuses on research and education networking activities in Africa.
Phase 2 of the AOSP will be focusing on capacity building/skills development, based on what we have learned during Phase 1.
