IOC and IAMSLIC sign Memorandum of Agreement
IOC and the International Association of Aquatic and Marine Science Libraries and Information Centers (IAMSLIC) established a Memorandum of Agreement on General Cooperation on 30 August 2011. The purpose of this agreement is to strengthen cooperation between both organizations in the field of marine information management through
- providing training and support to build human capacity related to marine information management;
- promoting networking of marine information managers; and
- promoting the capacity of libraries and information centres to disseminate and provide access to, marine scientific literature for the benefit of marine scientists and other relevant users.
In practical terms IAMSLIC will assist with the further development of OceanTeacher by identifying resource persons who will contribute content and lecturers, promote the activities of IOC/IODE's marine information management (MIM) activities, establish and host an "ask an expert" service to assist marine librarians with expertise available within the IAMSLIC and IODE MIM, and collaborate with IODE on the further development of the IAMSLIC Aquatic Commons e-repository.
