GODAN Webinar - Navigating knowledge management in the digital era: Understanding ‘data’
The GODAN Data Rights and Responsible Data Working Group is promoting a webinar on Navigating knowledge management in the digital era: Understanding ‘data’ that will be held on 11 October 2019 at 10:00 am (GMT).
Data are ubiquitous. Their production is ramping up and expanding rapidly. Ever greater computing power is driving data processing and use across every sector of the economy and society. As more data are produced, more questions around data ownership, control, use and management are emerging. For every new positive application of a data-driven technology, there is also a new risk of misuse. In light of this, it is more important than ever that professionals working in all sectors have a clear understanding of how the law treats ‘data’. How is data defined in law? Can data ever truly be ‘owned’? How do we differentiate between data that can be ‘owned’ and that which cannot? How should personal and sensitive data be treated? How do these issues apply to agricultural data?
During the webinar, Tom Orrell, Director at DataReady, will explore some of these questions. While not all the content touched upon is agriculture-data specific, the answers to these questions are foundational knowledge for anyone seeking to gain a better understanding of how data is regulated and governed.
