AGORA Online Course : AGORA : Fundamentals of Information Literacy and Access to Global Online Research in Agriculture

AGORA Team is pleased to offer an online course for AGORA (Access to Global Online Research in Agriculture), one of the four programmes of Research4Life.

The online course - provided by the Partnerships and South-South Cooperation Division (DPS) at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) in collaboration with Research4Life -  is entitled : 

 AGORA: Fundamentals of Information Literacy and Access to Global Online Research in Agriculture

The goal of this course

is to enhance agricultural research in developing countries by supporting access to peer-reviewed literature in the fields of food, agriculture, environmental science and related social sciences.

It is designed specifically to serve the needs of researchers, academics, research officers, librarians, IT specialists, other practitioners and students.

The course aims to provide information about the fundamentals of information literacy competencies and develop necessary skills to access and effectively use AGORA - a collection of up to 6,500 key journals and up to 22,000 books to more than 3,000 institutions in more than 115 countries.

WHO SHOULD APPLY ?

The course targets researchers, academics, research officers, librarians, IT specialists, other practitioners and students from AGORA eligible institutions in eligible countries. Anyone working or studying in agricultural and related sciences can apply for the course. Priority is given to anyone from Research4Life eligible countries, Group A and Group B respectively.

At the end of the course, participants attending the course will be able to :

  1. Identify and evaluate information sources, develop search strategy, familiarize with search techniques

  2. Understand ethical considerations in academia, gain skills in citing and referencing

  3. Obtain deep knowledge about institutional framework of AGORA and Research4Life programmes, registration process for AGORA and terms of use.

  4. Access and search AGORA content effectively including browsing collections, applying advanced search techniques, using discovery service and bibliometric analytical tool.

COURSE DESIGN 

The course is provided in English. It consists of two units including five lessons.

The course lasts two weeks having an assessment and evaluation at the end.

Participants are expected to spend 7,5 hour weekly on average to complete readings and engage in activities such as online tutorials and webinars.

Attendance of certificate is provided for those who passed the end of course exam with 60% success rate.

HOW TO APPLY ?

Anyone working or studying in agricultural and related sciences can apply for the course. Priority is given to anyone from Research4Life eligible countries, Group A and Group B respectively.

Online Registration Form is open until 8 October 2017, Sunday 23:00 CEST.

By submitting this online form, applicants DECLARE that their supervisor/manager/the person

- - to whom they report at their workplace - -

approves their participation in the "Fundamentals of Information Literacy and Access to Global Online Research in Agriculture” Online Course and allows them to dedicate about 15 hours in total during the two weeks of the course.
