Speciile de vânat includ toate speciile sălbatice de păsări și mamifere terestre a căror vânătoare este permisă în mod legal în țările care au semnat Convenția privind conservarea vieții sălbatice și a habitatelor naturale din Europa (Berna, 1979).
Game species include all wild avian and terrestrial mammal species for which hunting is legally permitted in countries that have signed the Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats (Bern, 1979). Game is usually defined as the live animal while "game meat" describes the product derived from the game carcasse (Codex).
