The Arcadia Fund, a Fund that supports charities and scholarly institutions to promote open access (OA) has recently awarded MIT Press, a university press affiliated with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, a grant of $850,000 to develop and pilot a sustainable framework for open access monographs.

The three-year grant from the charitalble fund created by Lisbet Rausing and Peter Baldwin, will perform a broad-based monograph publishing cost analysis and to develop and openly disseminate a durable financial framework and business plan for open access (OA) monographs.

MIT Press has been working on OA publishing for almost 25 years, and is one of the many publishers that, through the AGORA Programme, enables developing countries to gain access to an outstanding digital library collection in the fields of food, agriculture, environmental science and related social sciences.

The press will also pilot a program to implement the resulting framework for scholarly front- and backlist titles.
