AGRIS Search Engine New release, August 2010

The main features of this new release are essentially improving the page that displays the result record. In particular:

  • The table with the information about the record is build directly from the JSP code.
  • Authors, journal title, AGRIS categories and AGROVOC terms are now browsable.
  • There is a link that opens an empty AGRIS search. In fact, the AGRIS home page was not reachable from the result page, therefore, if this latter was retrieved by a Google search, it would not have been possible to reach the AGRIS Search.
  • Information about the AGRIS content provider is shown in a Google map with a placemark that displays the address details of the Institution.
  • The right frame is now embedding a set of Google search tools. The AGRIS Search can currently expand the metadata tags of the record, retrieving information such as related full-text documents or information about the author. The frame displays the first result for each automatic search, excluding results from FAO. Furthermore, the user can decide to view more results for each search. The information used by the Google search tool is:
    • the title
    • the journal title
    • combinations of authors/AGROVOC-terms (or free keywords)
    • combinations of corporate-authors/place of publication
  • Added metatags for Google Scholar: this information allows Google to index all the content so as to increase the possibility to retrieve an AGRIS record from a Google search.
  • Bug solved: the old version suffered of a concurrency issue, thus, if two users were doing queries at the same time, the application might display wrong information on the results, such as the number of results found.
