OpenID
Dear all,
for those of you who hate having a lot of usernames and passwords to remember, now the AIMS website supports the OpenID login.
More info on OpenID: http://openid.net/
Basically, an OpenID is an identifier that certain popular services like Google, Yahoo, Flickr etc. assign to their users and that those users can re-use to login to any other website that supports OpenID. So, if you have for example a Google account, you can associate it with your AIMS account (see below how) and from then on use it to login to AIMS.
Here is a list of popular services that provide an OpenID: http://openid.net/get-an-openid/
HOW TO DO IT
When you are logged in to AIMS with your current account (or, if you have not registered, once you have registered and logged in: http://aims.fao.org/login):
- click on My account and then on the "OpenID identities" tab;
- here you can associate your account to one or more of your existing accounts with services that implement OpenID (like Google, Yahoo etc.).
For most of them, it is sufficient to provide the full email address (e.g. your gmail address for Google): in case you are not logged in to that service when you do this association, you will be asked to log in. For others (like Flickr), you will have to provide the OpenID identifier that the provider gives you (you have to look for it in your account pages with that service).
The easiest accounts to use are gmail addresses and Yahoo addresses (if you have a yahoo.it.address, use yahoo.com instead).
- From that moment on, you can log in with any of the the accounts that you have associated with yours. If you are already logged in to that service (e.g. Google) your login to AIMS will be immediate, otherwise there will be an additional step: you will be required to login to the external service before being authenticated in AIMS.
After this, you will not need to remember your AIMS usernames and passwords anymore!
Cheers,
Valeria
