RDA/IGAD Webinar Series: ‘Sensitization of Agricultural Stakeholders on the Need and Benefits of Data for Equal Development: Open Data Day - Experience from Nigeria’

As part of The Research Data Alliance (RDA) Interest Group on Agricultural Data (IGAD) meeting focusing on IGAD/RDA : Sharing Experiences and Creating Digital Dialogues, Philip I. IFEJIKA, National Institute for Freshwater Fisheries Research presented a webinar during the ‘Africa’ group of presentations on May 28. 

The webinar focused on ‘Sensitization of Agricultural Stakeholders on the Need and Benefits of Data for Equal Development: Open Data Day - Experience from Nigeria.' The presentation shared experiences of open data day events on sensitization of agricultural stakeholders on the need and benefits of data for equal development. Highlights on principles supporting open data, model for data-driven services related farmer profiles, data capturing tools, farmer Profiling, benefits of data ( individual, farmers group, and organisations) and sample of Zenvus SMART Tech. On data for equal development highlighted issues of gender equality and equity, resource allocation, planning and development business models. Finally, an action plan through training to reduce data illiteracy, setting database, and data infrastructure investment. 

The Research Data Alliance (RDA) Interest Group on Agricultural Data (IGAD) meeting was set to be held in Rome (Italy) in April 2020 but instead, took place as a virtual meeting from May 25 to 28.  The virtual meeting provided an online platform to continue to build upon collaborations, knowledge sharing and developing innovations with activities including panel sessions, group discussions and presentations.

Philip I. IFEJIKA
Close to two decades of working experience on implementing agricultural programmes and projects for public, private, & nonprofit organizations for youth, women and men farmers in agricultural value chain activities across research, extension advisory services, agripreneur incubation & training, and communication strategy in fishery & aquaculture, crops, & livestock in Nigeria and ECOWAS sub-region with positive results on beneficiaries. Outcomes were visible in upscale and adoption of technologies, policy reform, gender mainstreaming, youth agribusiness entrepreneurship, established stakeholders’ forum, science communication, value addition and marketing. Within the period, I had working relationship with government ministries at state and federal levels, SMEs, farmers based organization, and farmers in rural and urban areas and international organizations. I belong to national and international professional and working groups as well as displayed competency in leadership, people’s skill, and transferable skill. Dr. Philip is an award winner of Glooming Youth Leaders for Agriculture, GIZ/NACCIMA agricultural show demonstration, CORAF/WECARD young research scientist nominee and Institute governing board recognition on quality research productivity. My publications on research are available and visible on journal domain online.
