MIMOS Delegation at FAO
On June 7th and 8th, a delegation from MIMOS, Malaysia visited FAO. MIMOS is a government agency of MOSTI (the Ministry of Science and Technology) of Malaysia. OEKC is collaborating with MIMOS in the area of “semantic technologies”. Specifically MIMOS has agreed to host FAO’s multilingual agricultural thesaurus AGROVOC, now in 20 languages, and the state-of the-art virtual platform that will allow collaborators from around the world to work on updating this key normative product.
Two presentations have been made by the MIMOS delegation:
- Monday, June 7th by the CEO of MIMOS, Dato Abdul Wahab Abdullah, with the title “Information Technologies to foster rural development”
- Tuesday, June 8 by the Head of the “Knowledge Technology Cluster”, Dr. Dickson Lukose, with the title “Examples of Semantic Technologies to resolve practical problems: e-learning, project/resource management, information mining”
These presentations were followed by introductions about the utilization of semantic technologies in FAO.
As a result of the Meeting, it has been decided to intensify collaboration on AGROVOC and to consider collaboration on AGRIS.
