National Agricultural Research Information Management System (NARIMS) -- A showcase of success using FAO tools and methodologies for agricultural information management
The NARIMS team in Cairo is finalizing a system that will serve the researchers and librarians as a key scientific gateway of Agricultural content in Egypt. The most important component of the system is the "Publications module", a fully XML-enabled system that allows both the import and export of data using the AGRIS AP XML metadata exchange format, and thus ensuring complete interoperability amongst data providers. The underlying XML layer that structures the NARIMS data also facilitates the use of protocols such as OAI-PMH for open access publishing. The NARIMS team imported nearly 40,000 AGRIS AP XML records in the NARIMS repository which up to now were available only through the AGRIS Database interface. This data, consisting of all the records indexed by EDICA, the AGRIS Centre in Cairo, in the course of the last 30 years, are now browsable online. Please use Internet Explorer to search and display the bibliographic references.
