The DSpace 2013 RoadMap and 3-5 Year Vision
The DSpace 2013 RoadMap and 3-5 Year Vision was recently presented (in part) during the "DuraSpace Plenary" talks, at the 2013 Open Repositories. The presentation recapped the developments made in DSpace 3.X, with its features enumerated.
The DSpace 2013 RoadMap
DSpace 2013 Roadmap maintains the committers team which will have additional members and the DSpace Advisory Team (DCAT) would continue to provide support the committers team. Towards year-end, DSpace is anticipating a version 4.0 release, with a possibility of the following features (to be decided):
- SWORD v2 enhancements
- Search/Browse enhancements
- REST API
- Other features visit the DSpace 4.0 release notes
Thereafter, DSpace is looking into major releases in each year, which will be backed by a DSpace Support Policy. This policy anchors its guidance on i) Support for Security Updates ii) Support for Bug Fixes, for the three major releases so far.
DSpace 3-5 Year Vision.
The DSpace draft vision is envisioned in the 5 point :
- Focus on IR fundamentals, modern use cases
- Be lean and flexible
- Include 'core IR'functionality which can be extended
- Be designed to integrated well
- Support low-cost, hosted solution
