ANNOUNCEMENT: Agricultural Open Data Hackathon contest innovative applications

The Institute of Agricultural Information Institute (AIS) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences together with the following partners - Global Agricultural Development Youth Forum (YPARD) Asia office, the Global Forum on Agricultural Research (GFAR), CIARD and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) are pleased to announce the Open Data Hackathon entitled the 'Agricultural Open Data Hackathon contest innovative applications' . The hackathon will hold the field competition on the 18th & 19th of November 2014 at the National Agricultural Library of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, in China.

Background

Agricultural Open Data Hackathon contest innovative applications aims to bring together professionals from agriculture, information management and software developers , to access selected data resources and other types of agricultural open datasets  then develop innovative applications or agriculture-based mobile applications. Interested individuals and teams are challenged to create and design software that enables the utilisation of open data resources and create innovative agricultural open data and mobile-agricultural-open data applications; to tap the agricultural potential value of open data; to create open data applications for agricultural innovation; to improve agricultural open data utilization levels; and to promote agricultural open data integration and sharing. This competition has two themes .

Conditions of Participation

Youth workers, Youth Hackathon enthusiasts, IT professionals in agriculture and other related fields, universities and research institutes - includes undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students who can be individuals or teams (members shall not exceed 3) . Participating teams or individuals may invite 1-2 instructor(s) for guidance and assistance.
