On the 10th of December 2014, 'the Land Portal launched an innovative and collaborative Open Data platform that combines data about land issues from diverse and credible sources around the world, enabling easy data exploration, manipulation and customization.Land rights fundamentally underpin economic, social and environmental sustainability, yet land governance in many countries fails to protect the world's poorest and most vulnerable people, leaving them at a permanent disadvantage and in a state of instability.How land is governed, from land rights for pastoralist and indigenous peoples and women to control over large-scale land acquisitions, is a crucial ingredient to improving the livelihoods of the 1.2 billion people currently living in poverty'.- Land portal
