I had the opportunity to attend the Track on Metadata and Semantics for Agriculture, Food & Environment (AgroSEM' 15) at the Metadata and Semantics Research Conference (MTSR 2015) recently held at Manchester 2015. The FAO AIMS Team takes leadership in the organization of the Track: Metadata and Semantics for Open Access Repositories, Research and Information Systems and Data Infrastructures (represented by Imma Subirats) and the Track 3: Metadata and Semantics for Agriculture, Food and Environment (AgroSEM’15).

AgroSEM' 15 Overview

In the 9th edition of the Metadata and Semantics Research Conference (MTSR 2015) the FAO AIMS Team  in conjunction with the Global Forum for Agriculture (GFAR) further submitted a paper entitled, “Setting up a Global Linked Data Catalog of Datasets for Agriculture”, the other 3 papers in this track were:-

• Improving access to big data in agriculture and forestry using semantic technologies, by  Lokers, Robe. et al.
• A Semantic mediator for handling heterogeneity of spatio-temporal environment data by Tran, Ba Huy et al
• Ontology Evolution for the Experimental Data in Food,  by Rim Touhami, Patrice Buche, Juliette Dibie and Liliana Ibanescu

Setting up a Global Linked Data Catalogue of Datasets for Agriculture

This paper reviewed the CIARD RING as catalog of datasets in agriculture.This paper explains how the CIARD RING provides a global linked data catalog of datasets for ag-riculture. The first part of this paper describes the Linked Data layer of the CIARD RING focusing on the data model, semantics used and the CIARD RING LOD publication. The second part provides examples of re-use of da-ta from the RING. The paper concludes by describing the future steps in the de-velopment of the CIARD RING. Proceedings

Revised and extended versions of best papers will be published in selected international journals, including the International Journal of Metadata, Semantics and Ontologies (Inderscience), and Program: Electronic library andinformation systems (Emerald) and the International Information & Library Review (Taylor & Francis) 

Proceedings have been published in the Springer's CCIS (Communications in Computer and Information Science) Series in previous events.
