CONTEXT

Data visualisation has been around at least since the 18th century and recently the increase of a number of easy-to-use tools have made the creation of different types of data visualisations, including infographics, available to a large segment of the population. Visualizations  can help reveal important trends  in agriculture and nutrition to support many objectives including advocacy and  training.

This part 1 of the Data Visualisation series will feature Studio Lakmoes, a Dutch company who work to turn complex data into compelling visualisations that tell stories.  CTA* will also present on how they are using infographics in their Data4Agriculture unit.

THE GOALS OF THE WEBINAR ARE TO:

  • Provide an understanding of infographics as a form of data communication;
  • Explain the process of creating a good infographic;
  • Demonstrate some visualisation software;
  • Share ideas on how infographics are being applied for open data for agriculture and nutrition.

PRESENTERS:

Marjolein Pijnappels is knowledge director and co-owner of Studio Lakmoes. She helps organisations gain insight in complex issues and data sets by visualizing knowledge, information and data in infographics. Studio Lakmoes supports scientists, policymakers and organisations in their knowledge communication.

* Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) is a joint international institution of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States and the European Union (EU). Its mission is to advance food security, resilience and inclusive economic growth in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific through innovations in sustainable agriculture. CTA operates under the framework of the Cotonou Agreement and is funded by the EU.

GODAN Action partners are working to build the capacity and diversity of open data users to tackle food security and nutrition challenge.
