European Commission releases survey report on scientific information in the digital age

The European Commission (EC) issued online the survey report Online Survey on Scientific Information in the Digital Age(pdf). The EC held the survey late 2011 in the context of obtaining ideas to adopt a Communication and Recommendation on access to and preservation of scientific information.

Objective of survey

The objective of the open consultation was to gather information from as many sources as possible, including governments, research institutes and universities, libraries, scientific publishers, research funding organizations, businesses, individual researchers, and other interested parties on their views on scientific information in the digital age. The consultation will feed into the development of possible policy options to be considered, and will contribute to the ex-ante impact assessment that will be carried out.

The consultation was set-up as follows:
