AGORA celebrates 10th anniversary
On the 16th of September 2013, FAO and its partners celebrated the 10th anniversary of AGORA - Access to Global Online Research for Agriculture -a programme to provide free or low-cost access to a wealth of scientific literature to students, researchers and academics in some of the world's poorest countries.
The strength of the AGORA programme is in its public-private partnership which is led by FAO with the following partners; Cornell University, Publishers and Microsoft. AGORA is part of the Research4Life programme, whose partners have pledged their continued support until 2020.
"Lack of access to knowledge is a major bottleneck for many poor countries to develop their agricultural sector and ensure food security," said FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva celebrating AGORA's 10th anniversary in Rome
Ten years after its launch in 2003 by FAO and founding publisher partners, AGORA now provides free or low-cost access to over 3500 key journals and 3300 books in food, nutrition, agriculture and related biological, environmental and social sciences to over 2500 institutions in 116 countries and territories.
