'Biotechnology Glossary Explorer' released
The 'Biotechnology Glossary Explorer' has been released. A collaboration between the units OEKR and OEKC of the Office of Knowledge Exchange, Research and Extension (OEK) of FAO. It uses a custom Drupal module designed by Italy-based development team Macaroni Bros. that uses SPARQL queries via AJAX to dynamically query a triple-store containing a SKOS-based glossary, returning titles, definitions and related results in up to six languages.
OEKC plans to soon develop version two which will enhance configurability by supporting hierarchical visualizations and ad-hoc OWL properties while also increasing deployability so the product can be easily installed within any existing Drupal 7 website.
The Biotechnology Glossary is managed using VocBench, a web-based multi-lingual vocabulary management tool also developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. It transforms thesauri, authority lists and glossaries into editable concept schemes and supports a growing set of user communities, including AGROVOC, a multi-lingual agricultural thesaurus of 40,000 terms in up to 22 languages, GEMET, the thesaurus of the European Environmental Agency and now the Biotechnology Glossary.
