COAR Controlled Vocabularies presented at the Open Science FAIR 2017 International Conference

The past OSFair2017 International Conference (6-8 September, Athens) showcased the elements required for the transition to Open Science: e-infrastructures and services, policies as guidance for good practices, research flows and new types of activities (disseminate, mine, review, assess, etc.), the roles of the respective actors and their networks. The conference included keynotes by distinguished speakers, roundtable discussions, hands-on workshops and training sessions, as well as a poster session.

A side-note:
* the COAR Vocabularies on Access Rights and Resource Types are
referenced in the updated OpenAIRE Guidelines for CRIS Managers:

* the COAR Access Rights is also recommended in an updated specification
(v.1.1) of the German Core Dataset on Research Information (Kerndatensatz
Forschung)

OSFair2017...

  • ... was organized as an emblematic initiative of four EU projects in the area of Open Science*: OpenAIRE, OpenUP, FOSTER and OpenMinTeD. It was locally curated by the National Kapodestrian University of Athens and the “Athena” Research and Innovation Center and co-sponsored by the National Library of Greece; 
  • brought together different stakeholder perspectives and suggested "Roadmaps" towards implementation on targeted aspects of Open Science.

*Open Science is a new research paradigm facing many challenges, mainly the ingrained research habits accompanied by non-incentive institutional and funder reward systems, the lack of embedded tools and services, the connection to non-academic communities.

During the Conference, the COAR Controlled Vocabularies (with technical support provided by FAO of the United Nations) was presented in a poster session by Jochen Schirrwagen.

* The COAR Controlled Vocabularies Interest Group has prepared an Infographic for COAR Controlled Vocabularies which provides an overview about the group and helps to understand the basics about the COAR Controlled Vocabularies. It is placed on FAQs for Controlled Vocabularies web page.
