Global Research Council launch an open access action plan
The heads of 70 research funding agencies which belong to the Global Research Council (GRC), together with high-ranking guests from science ,research, and science administration met in the annual GRC meeting and agreed to an open access plan. In essence, the funders agree to encourage open access to science publications resulting from their spending.
The except of the principles behind the open access plan include;-
- In order to increase their return on investments, research councils encourage open access to all results from publicly funded research which originated from their funding. This relates specifically to journal articles.
- The research councils see it as their responsibility to raise their grantees’ awareness and to educate (especially young) researchers regarding the importance, the benefits, and the various approaches towards open access.
- Research funders will provide support for their grantees to encourage and enable them in making their works openly accessible with suitable means, e.g. through open access policies, through addressing copyright, or through dedicated open access funding.
