IODE Project Office starts "Distance Lecturing"

The IODE OceanTeacher programme applied its own teaching during the Training Course on Outreach and Communication Tools (7-11 November 2011) by using distance education technology: one of the lecturers, rather than physically traveling to Oostende, presented her lecture through the Internet. Students were able to interact with the lecturer by audio conferencing.

After the course students were able to evaluate the course through a real-time online survey. As part of its decentralization strategy the IODE's OceanTeacher will gradually increase the use of distance lecturing as from 2012 to build a more geographically diverse lecturer group and to reach more students. In addition it is planned to establish OceanTeacher training centres in several regions.
