Last week, representatives of over 115 countries met at FAO's Rome headquarters for the 28th Session of the Committee on Fisheries (COFI). The 520 registered delegates discussed the program of work for FAO's Fisheries and Aquaculture Department and issues raised in the newly published "The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture".

 

D4Science is relevant to COFI as it provides an enabling infrastructure for the FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Department to lead the development of information partnerships with organizations that have complementary mandates. For example, the implementation of the international guidelines on deep-sea fisheries in the high seas (one COFI agenda item) will benefit from the development of collaborative virtual research environments across the fisheries, the biodiversity, and the oceanographic scientific user communities.

 

In parallel with the 28th Session, a series of side events and an exhibition were organized. Information on the D4Science project could be found in the D4Science booth in FAO’s Atrium.
