COAR report "The Current State of Open Access Repository Interoperability (2012)"

07/11/2012

The Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR) published the report "The Current State of Open Access Repository Interoperability (2012)".

Overview of Open Access Repository Interoperability Landscape

"The report provides an overview of the current interoperability landscape in terms of the types of services that are now possible because of recent research and development efforts from throughout the Open Access community. The report covers seven areas of focus for current interoperability initiatives, and it provides overviews of nineteen key interoperability initiatives.

The intended audience includes institutions and repository managers operating at different points in terms of infrastructure, resources, and institutional support. For institutions new to Open Access and repositories, the report aims to provide guidance for getting started and indicates which interoperability initiatives are necessary to implement in order to achieve specific services. For institutions and repository managers already involved in OA and repositories, the report may provide ideas for additional functionality to add to your repository or further services that are possible to provide to your community." COAR Interoperability Project

This report closes the third and last phase of COAR's Interoperability Project, a project with the aim of “facilitating the discussion on interoperability among Open Access repositories as part of a wider e-research infrastructure”.

The first phase provided an overview of interoperability for OA repositories (2nd quarter 2011) in the document “The Case for Interoperability for Open Access Repositories”. The second phase stimulated an open discussion to gather input about current and anticipated challenges related to global interoperability for OA repositories and to conduct an environment assessment of the current interoperability environment (3rd quarter 2011).
